The Centre for Dance Education offers optional discipline classes for students interested in jazz, modern, tap, and Broadway. They can be taken on their own or in conjunction with two ballet technique classes per week.
Jazz is a high-energy class with roots in jazz music of the last century, but it is brought up to date with the many styles seen in popular culture today. It is an essential part of a dancer’s training.
Modern will cover the foundations of modern dance through a variety of exercises improvisations, and movement combinations that help students feel comfortable moving their bodies in new ways. Our modern instructors are experts in a number of modern techniques, including Lester Horton, José Limón, Martha Graham, Paul Taylor, and Bartenieff Fundamentals.
Tap gives students an opportunity to learn tap technique while incorporating both cabaret and rhythm tap.
Broadway is a musical theatre-based class. The students learn to be versatile as they are exposed to a wide variety of dance genres. The class helps develop a wellrounded dancer who can respond quickly to new choreography in distinct styles.
All enrolled students are required to participate in Spring Concert. Rehearsals begin in class in February 2018.
